    An open source, peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that was founded in 2011 by Charlie Lee. Often described as the silver to Bitcoin’s gold, Litecoin started as a fork of Bitcoin but one that offers faster transaction times, lower transaction costs and a different hashing algorithm (Scrypt rather than Bitcoin’s SHA-256).
